Will Preparation and Estate Planning

Will preparation and estate planning is all about protecting your loved ones. Believe it or not, you have an estate. In fact, nearly everyone does. Your estate is comprised of everything you own— your car, home, other real estate, checking and savings accounts, investments, life insurance, furniture and other personal possessions. To ensure your wishes are carried out, you can create an estate plan and will to help you provide instructions stating whom you want to receive something of yours, what you want them to receive, and when they are to receive it.

Will Preparation

Not having a will can cause unnecessary stress and leave difficult decisions to family members or to the courts. Help protect your family’s financial future and ensure your final wishes are clear.

If you have Supplemental Life Insurance coverage through PG&E’s MetLife insurance, you have access to valuable legal resources through Hyatt Legal Plans. You get expert guidance – at no additional cost to you. Whether it’s creating a binding will or updating an existing will, you can take advantage of unlimited consultations with a plan attorney so you can feel confident you’re making the right decisions.

Contact Hyatt Legal Plans at 1-800-821-6400 to get started. Inform the representative that you work for Pacific Gas and Electric Company, provide them with customer number 74300 and the last 4 digits of the policy holder’s Social Security number to locate a participating plan attorney near you.

Estate Planning

Managing your assets and planning how your assets will be distributed after your death can give you peace of mind and help you make sound financial plans throughout your career and your lifetime. Assets may include items such as property, real estate and retirement accounts. Collectively, your assets make up your estate.

Your estate plan may include healthcare directives and a will, a trust, or both. A well-planned estate can give you the comfort of knowing that if there is an untimely death, no one will have to scramble for paperwork at their time of utmost grief. Planning your estate can help your family avoid probate and unnecessary financial burdens in the short and long term.

Contact the Employee Assistance Program at 1-888-445-4436 to request a trusts and estates attorney in your area. The first 30-minute consultation is no cost to you, and if you decide to hire the attorney, you will receive a 25% discount from the usual fee.

Funeral Planning

In addition to an estate plan and will, MetLife’s Funeral Planning Guide can help you support your loved ones at a time when they need it most. By documenting your funeral preferences, as well as other key information for your survivors, you can provide support posthumously – a final act of love.

Since a will is usually not read until after the funeral, it’s not a good place to indicate your funeral preferences. It’s also not a good idea to put the only copy of your Funeral Planning Guide in your safe deposit box, since your family may not have immediate access to the box following your death.
